Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Travelodge has officially opened a new London hotel on Lewisham High Street, marking the first of four hotels Travelodge is opening in London this year.

The other three hotels include the company’s first new-build premium budget-luxe hotels in Docklands and Wimbledon and also its first hotel in Peckham.

With the opening of Lewisham Travelodge, the group now operates 595 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain and it is the one of the largest hotel chains to operate across the Capital with hotels in 31 out of the 33 London boroughs.

London Lewisham Travelodge is situated on the High Street and features the group’s new upgraded restaurant called the Bar Café, SuperRooms – the company’s premium economy room as well as the signature Travelodge room.

The Travelodge SuperRoom dials up the comfort factor and is designed for customers who want the choice of a more premium room. This class of room is designed around the ‘premium economy’ concept familiar to airline users. It dials up the comfort factor for business and leisure customers who want the extra choice of a more premium room.

All the rooms in the hotel feature the bespoke king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed and also feature a modern en-suite bathroom, a 32 inch Freeview TV, in-room tea and coffee making facilities and access to Wifi.

Travelodge has appointed Eric Dagrou, who joined Travelodge in 2014 as the hotel manager at Crawley Travelodge, to manage the new hotel. Dagrou has also held several management positions at Croydon, Dartford, Gravesend, Greenwich West and Sidcup Travelodge hotels.

Dagrou said: “We are delighted that our Lewisham Travelodge is one of four London hotel openings this year. The hotel is ideally located on the High Street giving easy access into Central London.

“I am delighted to have built a great team, the majority of my team members are local parents, as at Travelodge, we are dedicated to supporting parents, by offering flexible working hours around the school run; so that they can work and climb the career ladder whilst raising their family. I am looking forward to developing my team so that they can become our hotel managers of the future.”
