The Trump Organisation has announced its acquisition of the iconic Turnberry Resort in Scotland

Following the acquisition by American property tycoon, Donald Trump, the legendary Turnberry resort on the South Ayrshire coast is to be renamed Trump Turnberry.

Trump has revealed that he will spend at least £100m on renovating the current Turnberry Hotel, which includes a 157-bedroom hotel, three golf courses, Colin Montgomerie Golf Academy, self-catering lodges, spa and outdoor activity centre.

Highly respected golf architect, Martin Ebert, who helped design the resorts famous Ailsa golf course, will be kept on by Trump, which is the only detail so far concerning the resorts development plans.

Trump will travel to Turnberry on July 2 to host a press conference concerning his plans for the resort.

Trump said: “I am honoured to own and manage this magnificent property, perhaps the most exciting property there is. We will be spending a great deal of time, effort and money to make Trump Turnberry the finest resort of its kind anywhere in the world.

“I would like to thank Starwood Hotels & Resorts for working with us, in the best interest of property, to bring about this historic acquisition. I would also like to thank all representatives in South Ayrshire for their support and wonderful statements to the media.”

Trump Turnberry will be managed by the Trump Organisation as part of a franchise agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
