Isle of Mull promotes Gemma Coll to general manager

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa, one of Crerar hotels properties, has promoted Gemma Coll to the role of general manager.

Coll, who was formerly the assistant manager of the island hotel, has been with the company since 2021 and has over 11 years of managerial experience within the hospitality industry, both within Scotland and internationally.

Prior to joining Isle of Mull, Coll previously worked for some of Scotland’s “biggest” hotels in the business, including the Gleneagles Hotel, and the Macdonald Forest Hills Resort.

She also spent time in South Africa managing both a “four-star” hotel as well as “luxury” self-catering accommodation.

During her time at the Isle of Mull, she has overseen the operation of the hotel after a £4 million renovation which included the launch of the reimagined Driftwood Spa, and the secluded outdoor Wilderness Deck and thermal experience for guests amongst the backdrop of the Mull wilderness.

Coll, general manager, said: “It’s been an exciting time for the Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of these monumental moments.

“The group has been incredibly supportive of my development within the company so I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few years have in store for the hotel, myself, and my wonderful team.”

She added: “Crerar Hotels is an inclusive and diverse environment that supports and encourages ambition. I am delighted that I get to start my new chapter as general manager at the Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa. It is a reminder to myself and to others in the business that hospitality has so many opportunities to build a fantastic career and with the right employer behind you, the world is your oyster.”

Chris Wayne-Wills, CEO of Crerar Hotels, said: “I’ve had the pleasure of overseeing Gemma’s time with the company, and I’m thrilled that all her hard work has paid off with her new role.

“At Crerar Hotels, we pride ourselves on investing in our associates and their progression in the hospitality industry through the Crerar Academy and Gemma’s progression to General Manager at the Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa, really cements our commitment to promoting our people and nurturing our homegrown talent. I believe Gemma will continue to lead her team with the passion that Crerar Hotels are known for, and she will continue to be a credit to the Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa.”
