Over 30 people have been evacuated after a fire ripped through The Angel in Midhurst, a 400-year old hotel in West Sussex, in the early hours of today (16 March).
The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of the fire at North Street, Midhurst at 1.08am this morning.
Some 15 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, two water carriers, an off-road vehicle and high volume pump were mobilised to the scene.
Firefighters were met with a “significant” fire in the roof space of the hotel upon arrival, which has since spread to adjacent properties.
The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service added that firefighters are “working hard to bring the fire under control” and are expected to be at the scene for a “considerable” amount of time.
Over 30 people have been safely evacuated from the buildings, and a relief centre has been set up in Midhurst for those that have been displaced.
