In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

A new luxury hotel, restaurant, bar, and spa is set to open in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district this spring.

Opening in May, The Municipal Liverpool hotel will be managed by RBH Hospitality and joins MGallery, Accor Group’s luxury boutique-hotel brand.

The new hotel will be housed in a Grade II listed heritage building on Dale Street. The “iconic” 19th Century building spans four floors and features 179 rooms, with “considered design references throughout that pay homage to the building’s rich heritage of French and Italian influences”.

The Municipal Liverpool – MGallery has seen many of the building’s existing materials and features refreshed to create “elegant new focal points”. Reminders of the building’s past as a council building will remain visible, including a series of seven-foot-tall statues on the façade, as well as vintage phones and library style desks.

Reinventing a landmark of Liverpool’s heritage, the building’s “iconic” clocktower, visible from across the city, has also been restored to bring it back to full working order.

The hotel’s rooms range from “generously sized” doubles to suites with views of the cityscape. The rooms feature warming palettes of earthy tones and opulent textures, and each room will feature King or Queen size beds as well as stocked minibars and bathroom amenities from luxury lifestyle brand, Culti.

The site will also feature new restaurant and bar spaces that offer all-day menus. The central Palm Court bar and lounge will sit in the heart of the hotel, with a “state-of-the-art” bar that hosts live music on selected days. During the day, The Botanic Tea Room will serve drinks, patisseries and afternoon tea options for guests and visitors.

Other notable features include wellness areas incorporating a swimming pool, sauna and steam room, fitness area, treatment rooms, Laconicum, salon and spa, filled with products from British skincare brand, Elemis and premium beauty brand, Grown Alchemist.

The hotel will also feature six large boardrooms, each available for hire and named after Liverpool’s ‘quarters’ – Ropewalks, Baltic, Cavern, Waterfront and Georgian Quarter.

Deirdre Billing, GM of The Municipal Liverpool – MGallery, said: “I am delighted to write a new story for the Municipal building, bringing back its local heritage into a hotel and introducing the luxury brand MGallery to Liverpool.

“It has been a joy to see this iconic building brought back to life and we can’t wait to welcome guests into the space and experience its charm for themselves. The hotel is an invitation to change the pace, take time and have a real break!”
