In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Flodigarry Hotel, which is described as “one of the most renowned hotels” on the Isle of Skye, has been brought to market for offers of over £3.5m.

The Flodigarry Estate is a high-quality sleeping and dining destination. Since purchasing the property in 2013, current owners Paul and Bette Temming have rebuilt, renovated, and refurbished the entire estate.

This work “hugely increased” asset value and profitability for a new owner to take advantage of, and the couple have now put the property on sale as they move onto other projects.

The circa 7.1 acre estate occupies an elevated position overlooking the sea to the Torridon Mountains. As well as 21 bedrooms, the hotel features grand spaces for guests including the ‘Skye’ restaurant with an open fireplace and a conservatory with views of the coastline and private gardens. There is also a Whisky Lounge and piano bar as well as the Skye Lounge Bar which opens out onto a terrace with more seating overlooking the ocean.

The hotel’s bedrooms are spread across several buildings including the historic main hotel, the Garden Lodge, Flora MacDonald’s Cottage and Dun Flodigarry, housing two luxurious suites.

Paul and Bette said: “The last 10 years have been an exceptionally rewarding venture and we are extremely proud to have transformed The Flodigarry Hotel from a neglected company to an impressively successful and prosperous enterprise.

“Today our accomplished management team runs the business autonomously and it is for us that time in life to start a new adventure. Owning the Flodigarry is so much more than just having a hotel and a highly profitable investment; it is a symbol of hospitality, of history, of success, reputation, and prestige in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.”

Robert Smithson in the Hotels Agency team at Colliers, who is handling the sale, added: “The Flodigarry is one of the most special hotels on Skye, steeped in history and surrounded by breath-taking scenery. The refurbishment that has taken place across the entire estate is testament to the respect the current owners have paid to its history and its surroundings. It is the only hotel on the island with a Green Tourism Gold Award.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique and exceptionally high-quality Scottish hotel which could also be an incredible private estate and we expect significant interest from across the UK and abroad.”
