The Cottage in the Wood Malvern names new GM

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The Cottage in the Wood Malvern has appointed Michael Pearson as general manager with the aim to “further establish the boutique hotel as a unique destination”.

Born and raised in Malvern, Pearson returns to the area and brings his managerial skills to the four-star hotel, which is “close to his heart” as a place he used to visit with his family.

Having previously worked as operations manager at Tewkesbury Park, he rose through the ranks from bar supervisor to food and beverage manager in various hotels in the UK.

The Cottage in the Wood Malvern, which won Hotel of the Year at the Worcestershire Tourism Awards in 2023, has recently been awarded four AA stars, and 1919 restaurant gained 3AA rosettes in September this year.

The team, led by Pearson, is working towards making it the go-to place for foodies, with the continued introduction of new seasonal tasting menus, new cocktail experiences and regular events.

Pearson said: “Working at The Cottage in the Wood Malvern was always a dream of mine. It’s been a place for family gatherings, which I remember from when I was growing up, and even as an adult I always dreamt about what I could bring to the hotel if I were to manage it. I am excited about the new role and working closely with the team to bring the experience to life.”

The Cottage in the Wood Malvern’s owner Nick Davies added: “With his passion for the industry and his trendsetting vision, Michael is joining our young and dynamic team and has many ideas for the hotel, bar, and restaurant. This is a great time for The Cottage in the Wood and we are looking forward to seeing what 2024 will bring with Michael at the helm.”
