CitySuites has achieved carbon neutrality for the fourth consecutive year, according to its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report released today (18 September). It comes as it has procured renewable energy for the past three years, whilst investing in water conservation and adopting “innovative” waste reduction programs.
According to its latest report, the luxury serviced apartments group has also diverted 100% of waste away from landfills for the third year in a row, and is powering its operations using 100% renewable energy.
Combined with enhanced energy reporting, the company said it hopes to lower its carbon intensity ratio by a further 5% in 2024.
So far, in 2024, it has developed a carbon reduction glide path, setting annual targets as the business moves towards net zero emissions. CitySuites has also entered into a new partnership with 5D Net Zero, a carbon-offsetting investment company that ensures they participate in a verified programme.
Elsewhere, the group said its DE&I commitments have “continued to provide a tangible set of values and targets”.
Over the year, it achieved the Disability Confident Employer accreditation, trained eight Mental Health First-Aid Champions, and raised almost £10k for charitable initiatives.
It also formalised an employee committee with representatives from every department to meet on issues, including a DE&I programme.
The group added that its ”robust governance framework is designed to drive sustainable growth, uphold ethical standards and foster trust among employees, guests and partners”. Key components of this include “clear policies, rigorous oversight, and a culture that prioritises ethical decision-making and accountability”.
Gavin Bailey, MD of CitySuites, said: “Hospitality plays a crucial role in driving sustainable change. At CitySuites, we believe that luxury and sustainability can coexist. By adopting a sustainable business model, we are demonstrating that high-end experiences can be achieved without compromising the planet.
“By actively monitoring and adapting our ECG structures, we remain responsive to evolving industry standards and stakeholder expectations. Our commitment to principled leadership and transparency positions us to navigate challenges and seize opportunities, reaffirming our dedication to excellence and ethical conduct in the hospitality industry.”
