Parade House in the historic centre of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, has been brought to market for a guide freehold price of £950k.
Located just 20 minutes from Regency Bath and with transport routes to London and Bristol, the Grade I-listed Parade House was built in around 1720 for the wealthy cloth merchant Robert Houlton and is one of the town’s “finest and most iconic” buildings.
The property has been sympathetically restored and refurbished by the current owners, and caters for a range of events, such as weddings, celebrations, private functions, film screenings, fine dining dinners, afternoon teas and conferences.
Spread over four floors, Parade House benefits from elegant, generously proportioned rooms with high ceilings, sash windows, marble fireplaces and detailed ceiling covings, all quintessential of the Georgian period.
The venue also boasts a wealth of original period features, including a grand 18th-Century carved oak staircase and a first floor Ballroom. The largest entertaining space in the property, the Ballroom spans the entire width of the house and is filled with natural light, featuring seven full height sash windows, two fireplaces and four large chandeliers.
Recent additions include the creation of a new private bar, lounge and cinema in the historic vaults, with raked seating and a “state-of-the-art” interactive screen and sound system. A large new event kitchen on the top floor can cater for both public and private events, while a landscaped lawn area sits to the front of the property.
The business is being sold by Carey and Simon Tesler, who said: “We are immensely proud to have saved this magnificent building which was near-derelict when we bought it almost three years ago. It has been a privilege to restore it to its former glory and create an exciting and prestigious new venue for Wiltshire.
“It is time now for us to pass the mantle to a new owner who has the vision and expertise to take Parade House to the next level as a luxurious events venue, and to build on the many opportunities lying ahead.”
Sam Roberts, senior broker of hotels at Christie and Co, added: “I’m delighted to have been entrusted with the sale of Parade House. The property is an elegant and historical treasure in the heart of this county town. Currently trading as a wedding and events venue, it has been beautifully and painstakingly refurbished by the current owners and provides a versatile offering for an incoming buyer to continue the success of the current business model or to utilise the building in different ways.
“It’s a rarity to see buildings like this come to the market in such good condition and therefore we expect lots of interest in this opportunity to purchase a slice of history in this sought after area of Wiltshire.”
