Red Construction Group has announced the completion of its £22m 4-star Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, finalising the construction of the UK’s first branded Net Zero Carbon hotel.
The hotel, which operates with Energy Use Intensity (EUI) levels—a key benchmark for building sustainability in the years ahead, features 142 stylish bedrooms, a restaurant and bar showcasing local produce, a mini gym, gardens and meeting space.
In alignment with 2050 sustainability targets, the hotel has implemented the UK’s first vertical photovoltaic cladding system, ensuring that Voco Zeal Hotel generates more solar energy each year than the building consumes, integrated into multiple facades in a way that enhances the hotel’s overall design.
Additionally, the 100% electric hotel also includes a car park with 12 EV charging points and electric bike charging points.
RED Construction Group’s South West division worked alongside the highly collaborative team of Voco Zeal Hotels, ECE Westworks, Introba and Hydrock Bristol, from the outset.
Derek Quinn, South West’s managing director, said: “Zeal hotel has got to be an exemplar for all new build hotels, highlighting what is achievable when collaboration and ambition meet.”
