Tewinbury Farm Hotel named Family Business of the Year

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Tewinbury Farm Hotel has won Family Business of the Year 2025 at the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards.

The awards, organised by the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce, were held at the hotel’s countryside venue near Tewin.

Judges highlighted the business’s “grit and resourcefulness” in managing economic challenges and noted a 400% increase in profit, achieved without compromising environmental standards.

Founded in 1931, Tewinbury began as a dairy farm when the Williams family moved to the site with a herd of 50 cows.

In 1980, the family sold the herd to expand their land and opened a small farm shop. They soon began offering guest accommodation, marking their move into hospitality.

The site now spans 700 acres and combines a working farm with a hotel and events venue. It includes 44 hotel rooms, a range of huts and lodges, three food and drink outlets, a treatment room, barn-style events space, live music weekends and a festival site.

Now in its 101st year, the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards brought together businesses from across the region for a masquerade-themed gala celebrating innovation and resilience.

Ryan McDonald, head of marketing at Tewinbury Farm Hotel, said: “Tewinbury is family run but that’s never just been about the immediate family. As the hotel has grown so has the family behind it, a team that cares deeply about what we do and guests who feel like part of something special the moment they arrive.”

Donna Schultz, Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce chief executive, added: “Tewinbury Farm Hotel is the embodiment of what makes family-run businesses so special – resilience, vision, and values rooted in legacy. Their success reflects the strength of long-term stewardship and the positive impact it can have on both the local economy and the wider community.”
