Glasgow’s Voco Grand Central Hotel has officially commenced its phased reopening, after the hotel was forced to close abruptly on 8 March 2026 when a devastating fire broke out at the adjacent B-listed “Union Corner” building.
The fire caused a partial structural collapse and required a complex, months-long site clearing operation by demolition teams.
While core accommodation, public spaces, and interiors are fully operational from today, localised restoration work remains ongoing around the hotel’s prominent staircase area, which adjoins the exposed gable wall of the incident site.
The reopening follows the recent lifting of safety cordons on the thoroughfare leading from Glasgow Central Station to Gordon Street.
The hotel’s food and beverage outlets have also fully resumed service. Champagne Central has reopened with a refreshed beverage programme, featuring a completely new cocktail menu alongside its signature afternoon tea and early evening set menus.
Meanwhile, the hotel’s Tempus Restaurant is now fully operational, returning to its standard daily breakfast service for both residents and visitors.
First opened in 1883, the grand Victorian railway hotel has stood at the center of Glasgow’s hospitality industry for more than 140 years, hosting historic figures such as Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, and Frank Sinatra.
The hotel management confirmed that despite the challenging disruption, the “structural integrity of the main building is secure, and staff have worked behind the scenes to ensure guests experience the venue’s traditional high standard of service upon arrival”.
