IHG Hotels and Resorts (IHG) has announced the appointment of Craig Turner as the new bar manager for Champagne Central, located at Voco Grand Central Glasgow.
With more than two decades of experience in hospitality across Scotland, the UK, and internationally, Turner, 44, has cultivated a passion for innovative mixology and luxury customer experiences.
Born in Belgium and now residing in Scotland for more than 30 years, Turner’s journey in the industry began with Hilton in Dundee at the age of 18. His career took him across various prominent venues in Glasgow, including The Corinthian, 29 Private Members Club, the Riverboat Casino and even the re-open of ‘Tabac’.
A stint in New York City also exposed him to “world-class” bartending, which became a major influence on his “unique” style.
Turner’s experience spans not only bar management but also concept development. During his time with Abode Hotel from 2018 to 2020, he introduced the popular ‘pie and beer’ concept.
In his new role, Turner will oversee a team of 36 staff and will be building his very own hospitality team, including two experienced mixologists from “popular” Glasgow venues, who have recently joined under his leadership.
His first project – a winter cocktail menu which launches this month – will feature a selection of six cocktails inspired by the festive season, each crafted with “unique” ingredients and techniques.
Turner said: “I’ve always had my eye on Champagne Central. My love for champagne was definitely a driving factor, as the bar’s unparalleled champagne selection and its vibrant clientele make it an incredible place to be.
“I’m especially excited about bringing my innovative touch and building a memorable experience for each guest. Working in New York was a source of creative inspiration for me when forming my own unique serving style – something I want to emulate within Champagne Central.”
He added: “Champagne Central is all about creating memories. Whether it’s a classic French Martini or a bespoke creation like our very own ‘Honey I’m Home’ cocktail that infuses strawberries with aged Tequila (credit Jack Bray, CC Mixologist) my aim is to make every moment in Champagne Central unforgettable.”
Marcello Ventisei, general manager of voco Grand Central, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Craig Turner as bar manager at Champagne Central. His extensive background in both local and international hospitality, combined with his passion for mixology and creating memorable guest experiences, makes him the perfect addition to our team.
“I’m confident that with his leadership, our guests will experience a whole new level of warmth, creativity, and exceptional service. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.”
