The inaugural Exceptional Service Awards will be awarded to employees who have been nominated by travellers for delivering service they felt went above and beyond.
TripAdvisor surveyed its traveller community and found that nearly half (47%) of UK respondents say that they have received exceptional service several times over the past year, and almost nine out of 10 (88%) have returned to a specific hospitality business as a direct result of exceptional service.
Despite that, two thirds (68%) of those who took the survey did not think that hospitality professionals receive sufficient recognition for their efforts.
Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor, said: “Hospitality professionals can be the difference-maker between what makes a trip simply good or absolutely amazing, and TripAdvisor wants to help shine a spotlight on those who do it best. The Exceptional Service Awards are a way for our travellers to publicly recognise and celebrate hospitality professionals who went the extra mile to make guests feel special.”
Travellers from the UK and US are invited to nominate hospitality professionals by submitting their exceptional service story on TripAdvisor from now until October 24.
Winning hospitality professionals will be recognised on the TripAdvisor website and receive a certificate, employers will also be informed of their recognition.
The winners will be announced later this year.
