Rigby Group, parent company of the Eden Hotel Collection, has submitted a planning application for a £13.5m, 51-room boutique hotel and spa on the seafront near Salcombe, South Devon.
The new hotel will take over the spot of the current Tides Reach Hotel which closed more than a year ago and was acquired by Rigby Group in January this year.
The new boutique hotel, spa and restaurant will operate under Rigby’s award-winning Eden Hotel Collection, which includes properties such as the Bovey Castle hotel and estate on Dartmoor and the Buckland Touts-Saints Hotel in Kingsbridge.
Mark Chambers, Managing Director of the Eden Hotel Collection, said: “Submitting a planning application is a significant milestone for our new Tides Reach Hotel proposals and we have been very encouraged by the positive reaction to the designs during our drop-in exhibition and consultations.
“Almost three quarters of the people who attended felt it important that the site continues to operate as a hotel and we have produced a scheme that pays tribute to the art-deco heritage of the South Hams while providing high quality accommodation that can help extend the tourist season and provide more than 60 full-time jobs.
“Tides Reach is an important step towards our objective of building Eden Hotels Collection into the South West’s leading luxury boutique hotel brand.”
The new Tides Reach Hotel will be inspired by the art-deco style of the British seaside and will feature curved terraces and tiered green roofs.
The hotel design will also include a range of sustainable features including rainwater harvesting for all WCs, green roofs to provide water attenuation, solar thermal panels to provide hot water for the bedrooms and an air source heat recovery system to heat the hotel pool.
