Hartlepool’s Best Western Grand Hotel has confirmed that the historic site has fallen into administration.
All staff at the hotel have now been made redundant in light of the collapse, though it remains unclear how many individuals have lost their job.
The hotel, which dates back to the 19th Century, was a popular venue for events and weddings in the North East.
Whilst no official announcement has been made, the site’s manager said in a recent update that “someone will be in touch” with those that have booked an upcoming wedding or event at the site.
In a statement on the hotel’s Facebook page, general manager Paul Riley said: “I am receiving a number of calls today regarding the status of the hotel.
“It is with regret that I must confirm the hotel is now in administration with all employees, including myself, made redundant.”
He added: “I am sure that someone will be in touch in the coming days with regards to weddings and events that have been booked, but unfortunately it is out of our hands at this point so calling the hotel directs to my mobile, and I am afraid I am unable to tell you anything more.”
