The Mariner Hotel, a family-run establishment based in Aberdeen’s West End, has announced it will not reopen its doors after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The hotel is also home to seafood restaurant Atlantis, which will also be closing.
Aberdeen was recently placed in a strict localised lockdown after a spike in Covid-19 in the city, resulting in the closure of hospitality venues and restrictions on travel.
Co-owners Mike and Sharon Edwards revealed the news on social media, citing the ‘‘challenging times’’ directly caused by lockdown and the subsequent economic fallout.
The pair said: ‘‘With a heavy heart we can confirm that the Mariner Hotel will not be reopening. The lockdown has been a challenging time for many hospitality businesses in Aberdeen – and we are no exception.
“We have had a wonderful journey over the past 30 years – bringing Atlantis up to the hotel, and making it a home from home for ourselves, our amazing staff and our locals and regulars. We have enjoyed being part of a lovely West End community – it’s been a privilege to be part of it.’’
