The Pig – on the Beach has been named as the Best Smith Hotel 2015 at the Mr & Mrs Smith Awards, which took place last night (Thursday, November 5).

The 23-bedroom country house hotel in Dorset, which is part of Robert Huston’s Pig portfolio, edged the top award ahead of second-placed Halcyon House, a surf-motel on Australia’s east coast, and the Maldives’ Soneva Fushi.

It was a successful evening the UK hotels as the Zetter Townhouse in London’s Marleybone was given the title of the ‘Hottest Hotel Bar’.

Meanwhile, hotels such as Dormy House, Ham Yard, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, Corinthia hotel London were named as runners up in various awards.

James Lohan, co-found of Mr and Mrs Smith, said that the boutique hotel industry is at the “cutting edge” of hospitality.

He said: “That’s what we want to celebrate with the Smith Hotel Awards – the places that do things differently, where you come back with stories of chefs creating impromptu dishes tailored just for you, or where the general manager personally drives you the scenic route to the airport.”

More than 1,000 hotels for a place in the 12 categories with over 22,000 members of the public voting for their favourite hotels throughout September. Shortlisted hotels were then put to a panel of expert judges.
