Budget hotel brand Travelodge has announced plans to open 19 new hotels in 2016, with an investment value of £140m.
The company said the plans continue its drive to build a “greater network” for corporate customers, adding that it will further expand in London alongside targeting key business locations across the UK regions such as Glasgow and Bristol.
It also said it will target the fastest growing locations for leisure travel, with new leisure-focused hotels opening in Poole, Weston-Super-Mare, Bicester and Thetford.
The expansion, which is expected to create 450 new jobs, will increase the company’s portfolio to 542 properties.
Peter Gowers, chief executive, said: “The value hotel market continues to go from strength to strength, boosted by ever more cost-conscious businesses and the growth in independent leisure travel.
“To meet the growing demand Travelodge is continuing to invest in upgrading and expanding our network. These 19 new hotels, many with our new bar café restaurants, mark another important step in our drive to deliver greater quality for our customers.”
In addition to the 2016 openings, the company said it has identified 250 further locations for Travelodge development in the UK.
The company today announced its first three new hotel signings of the year; with new agreements signed to build and open hotels at London Acton, London Wood Green and Oxford.
