French hotel group AccorHotels has opened its new Ibis Cambridge hotel, its first property in the city.

Situated in Station Square, directly opposite the train station, the 231-bedroom hotel features the brand’s new room concept ‘Sweet Room’, meeting rooms, reception-free check in, cafe and a bar.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director of Accor’s UK and Ireland division, said: “We have ambitious expansion plans in the UK and growth in the regions outside of London is a key part of this.

“Cambridge is a hugely popular destination for both leisure and business travellers and our new hotel will help to cater for both. We are very pleased to be investing in the Cambridge economy and look forward to making a positive impact in the area for our guests, partners and the local community.”

The opening of the property, which is the largest hotel in Cambridge and its surrounding areas, has created some 20 new jobs, ranging from managerial roles to receptionist, bar and restaurant staff.
