Owning a hotel is easy right? No… we didn’t think so. That’s something former child star Rupert Grint had to learn the hard way after he closed his hotel down for reportedly not making enough money.
Grint, who found fame with the Harry Potter film franchise alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, opened the £150-a-night Rigsby’s Guest House in Hertford back in 2011, but decided to close it down after it reportedly made just £2,000 profit in four years.
The closure earlier this year was confirmed on the property’s Facebook page by manager Morris Cockman, who wrote: “I would like to thank everybody for your support over the years.”
The Grade II-listed property was purchased outright by Grint’s parents for £975,000 in 2003, but the actor was believed to be the only shareholder.
The closure came after the hotel won an episode of the Channel 4 reality show Four in a Bed in 2013, which sees hoteliers stay at each other’s properties and judge them on who offers the best value for money.
But is there a twist to the plot? As if by magic, Rigsby’s Guest House was reopened under new management in March despite fears the building would be transformed into private housing.
It is not yet known if the venture is still being funded by the Grints.
