The UK hotel and leisure industry is expected to have a record year with a huge increase in the number of domestic and international visitors holidaying in the country.
According to the Barclays Corporate banking report, Destination UK, 63% of international holidaymakers said they were more interested in visiting the UK compared to last year due to the weakness of the pound.
Some 30% of respondents said that spending power was a key reason why they wanted to visit the UK.
Of the 10,000 people asked, many said that British television influenced their decision to holiday in Britain. Of those who cited TV as a reason, 44% were Chinese and 26% American.
Staycations also showed to be increasing in popularity, with 30% of UK respondents planning to holiday in the country in 2017.
Mike Saul, head of hospitality and leisure at Barclays, said: “2017 looks set to be a strong year for the British hospitality sector with both domestic and international visitors increasingly intent on spending more time here.”
The report also showed that London and Scotland were popular choices for holiday, with 67% wishing to visit the capital and 44% wanting to go to Scotland.
