Booking.com has announced that it will be significantly changing its hotel cancellation and deposit policies going forward.

The online travel agent is set to reduce the number, and types, of cancellation and prepayment policies that it will support on its virtual platform starting from 6 April.

It will only allow cancellation and prepayment policies that require fees for the first night’s stay, 50% of the total stay or the entire stay.

In a statement on its website, Booking.com said: “As we continue to rebuild travel together in 2021, we’re making improvements to the traveller experience by simplifying the number and types of cancellation and prepayment policies that are available on our platform.

“We’d like to reassure you that we’re making these improvements with your business’ success in mind. These changes will give you more control over how much flexibility you offer, as well as providing travellers with the extra clarity they’re looking for – enabling them to book with confidence.”

It added: “Many of the policies currently available on our platform result in few bookings or aren’t used at all. From 6 April 2021, we’ll continue to support the policies that are most used and generate the most bookings.”
