The Twenty Two appoints Michelle Walder as MD

Walder will spearhead the strategic direction of The Twenty Two, focusing on enhancing the guest experience, fostering partnerships, and driving operational excellence

Mayfair’s luxury lifestyle hotel, The Twenty Two, has announced the appointment of Michelle Walder as its new managing director, beginning from 3 July 2023.

The hotel said that with her “extensive background” in the hospitality industry and a passion for design and architecture, Walder brings a “fresh perspective and dynamic leadership” to the iconic establishment.

Walder will spearhead the strategic direction of The Twenty Two, focusing on enhancing the guest experience, fostering partnerships, and driving operational excellence.

As well as The Twenty Two in Mayfair, she will also be overseeing the brand’s upcoming New York property, slated to open in 2024. Operated by the same group, a new 77-bedroom hotel, restaurant and private members’ club will be opening in the heart of New York.

Walder’s journey in the hospitality sector began at a young age, starting in room service and coat check at just 13 years old.

Walder has previously worked with globally renowned hotelier Ian Schrager, both in New York and London and has also had various roles and projects including six years with Andre Balazs Properties, contributing to the success of The Mercer, Sunset Beach, and The Standard Hotels.

Walder also lent her talents to Faena, an Argentinian-based hotel group, as well as Schrager’s Edition Hotels in Miami and New York.
