The Savoy to reopen Simpson’s in the Strand in 2024
Simpson’s in the Strand first opened in 1828 and was one of the first restaurants in the UK to win a Michelin star in 1974
The Savoy will be reopening Simpson’s in the Strand in 2024 in partnership with Jeremy King, the co-founder of Corbin and King and founder of Jeremy King Restaurants.
Simpson’s in the Strand first opened in 1828 as a coffee shop and chess club, becoming a restaurant 20 years later and one of the first in the UK to win a Michelin star in 1974.
According to The Savoy, the restaurant was renowned for championing traditional British fare, with roasts served on silver platters and carved tableside from trolleys.
The venue has also been frequented by Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill, Laurence Olivier and Audrey Hepburn.
King said: “It is now well over 40 years since I fell in love with Simpson’s in the Strand and over 20 years since I first became excited at the prospect of being able to work with The Savoy and take over its helm.
“Simpson’s is the last of the ‘Grande Dame’ restaurants that still retains its original décor and features, and the prospect of restoring it to its former glory is the apotheosis of my career. The history of this magnificent institution will be cherished as we bring it fully into the 21st-Century.”

The Grade-II listed building’s restaurant closed in March 2020 due to Covid restrictions and never reopened, facing the possibility of permanent closure until now.
