Ardlui Resort on Loch Lomond brought to market for £8m

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Ardlui Retreat, a three-acre luxury estate on the banks of Loch Lomond’s northern shore, has been placed on the market for offers in excess of £8m.

The property includes a five-bedroom main house with infinity pool, eight luxury lodges and 180 metres of loch frontage.

Originally built as a hunting lodge for the Colquhoun family in the mid-19th Century, the estate was eventually converted into a hotel and leisure park. It was last acquired in 2016 and redeveloped as a high-end retreat.

Facilities include a manager’s lodge, gym, reception building, laundry services and communal barbecue area. A residential caravan used for staff, storage space, boat and jet-ski jetties, and a woodland site with planning permission are also part of the sale.

Ardlui Retreat sits alongside the family-owned Ardlui Resort holiday park, which was also recently listed for sale.

William Rankine, partner at Knight Frank Glasgow, who is handling the sale, said: “Ardlui Retreat is a rare opportunity to acquire a luxury estate in the heart of Loch Lomond. It currently operates as an exclusive short-lets business, but there is the option to expand or reconfigure the site so that it could equally be used as a private family compound for several generations or be developed as a wellness, hospitality, or event destination.”

John Rae, head of office at Knight Frank Glasgow, added: “This is one of the most remarkable lifestyle investment opportunities in Scotland and we expect there to be a great deal of interest from a range of potential buyers. It is the first in a series of sales we have coming up across the leisure, experience, and luxury sectors with our growing expertise in these types of assets.”
