Aykley Group has announced the opening of a £2.3m boutique aparthotel in Durham city centre, which occupies the former Court Inn site on Court Lane and includes four suites.
The development consists of four themed suites named Marrakesh, Peking, Andorra, and Pioneer. Each includes high-specification kitchen facilities, bathroom amenities, and integrated technology for guests.
The project involved the acquisition of the historic building for £815k, with a further £1.5m spent on a refurbishment programme to convert the first and second floors.
The ground floor will house a separate restaurant and bar named The Court. Local leisure operators have been engaged to manage the venue, which features wood panelling and marble surfaces.
Imad Ali, chief executive of Aykley Group, said: “The Sanctuary Knocker creates an unforgettable experience, not just a place to stay. We’ve taken inspiration from global travel to deliver something completely unique to the city.
“Each suite tells its own story, allowing guests to step into a different world while enjoying the best in comfort and service.”
He added: “This investment reflects our confidence in Durham as a growing destination and our ambition to raise the bar for luxury accommodation across the region.”
