Plans for a £300m luxury hotel linked to Harrods via a secret tunnel has been approved in Knightsbridge, London.
According to The Times, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has given the greenlight to develop a hotel on the site of the Pavilion Road NCP car park.
The freehold site was acquired by Singapore-based Kwek Leng Beng CDL property group for £85m in 2013.
The new hotel is set to offer 120-bedrooms across eight floors. It is also set to include three basement levels which are to house a spa and rental units.
The new build is set to take over 30 months and is being designed by UK-based Hamiltons Architects.
Speaking to The Times, David Ashcroft, chief executive of Dartmouth, representing the developers, said: “When we bought the site we knew from the legal documents that there was a tunnel but it had been blocked up at both ends.
“We only found the entrance last week and informed Harrods of that. It’s in remarkably good condition, still green Harrods carpets and lots of Harrods signs.”
