French hotel group Accor has expanded its UK portfolio with the signing of two new hotels in Derby and Leeds – increasing its portfolio by 234 rooms.

The 100-bedroom newly refurbished Mercure Derby will be operated under a franchise by its owners, London Town Hotels Group.

The hotel will be Accor and London Town Hotel Group’s fifth Mercure hotel, following the partnership with the Mercure Nottingham City Centre, Mercure London Kensington, Mercure London Paddington, and the Mercure London Hyde Park which is to open later this year.

The second signing is the 134-room, new build Ibis Styles Leeds Merrion Centre, which will operate under a franchise agreement with Town Centre Securities.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director at Accor UK and Ireland, said: “We are pleased to announce these new hotel signings which prove the attractiveness of our brands to franchise partners. Our ambitious expansion plans demonstrate our commitment to strengthening the portfolio across our budget and midscale brand segments.”

Mercure Derby is expected to open at the end of the year and the Ibis Styles Leeds in 2016.
