Malmaison and Hotel du Vin acquire four hotels in £36m deal

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Fraser Hospitality, the owner of the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin group, has announced the acquisition of four new properties in a deal worth £36m.

The deal sees the company acquire the 75-bedroom Avon Gorge hotel in Bristol, the 59-bedroom Magdalen Chapter in Exeter, the 60-bedroom Montpellier Chapel in Cheltenham and the 71-bedroom Hotel Seattle in Brighton from Swire Properties Hotels Holdings.

The hotels will continue to operate under their existing names until 2016 when development plans will be revealed for each property.

Choe Peng Sum, CEO, said: “These four stylish and iconic hotels in their respective cities are a perfect fit for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, and this acquisition is clearly in line with the group’s expansion strategy of the brands within the UK, Europe and Asia.

“With these two best-in-class lifestyle brands, we are on track to achieve our goal of operating 30,000 keys by 2019.”

The acquisitions follow Frasers Hospitality’s purchase of the 29-strong Malmaison and Hotel du Vin group for £363m earlier this year.
