The freehold of Seckford Hall hotel – a 15th Century property with historical links to the monarchy – has been put on the market for £4.1m.
The Grade II-listed country house hotel, which set in 10 acres of land near Woodbridge in Surrey, comprises 32 en-suite bedrooms; a restaurant with room for 80 guests; an array of multi-functional events rooms and a spa with heated pool.
A detached former hunting lodge and multiple other outbuildings also form part of the sale.
The Hall was originally the dynastical home of the Seckford family. Thomas Seckford was an official of Queen Elizabeth I whom it is believed held court at Seckford Hall, and some of the furniture throughout the hall can be traced back to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
Paul Barrasford, director of hotels at Colliers International, which is handling the sale, said: “Seckford Hall is a magnificent Tudor building with a rich and illustrious history. Under the tenure of the current owner, the property has benefited from an extensive investment programme across multiple areas of the building.”
Notable owners of the property have included the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, members of parliament, an army colonel and the financial secretary to King George V.
During the Second World War, the hall was taken over by the state and anti-aircraft guns were positioned in the hills surrounding the estate.
