UKH Cymru welcomes gov’s ‘six indoors’ decision

Hospitality businesses can entertain six adults from six households from 17 May

UKHospitality (UKH) Cymru has welcomed the Welsh government’s decision to ease social distancing restrictions further for indoor hospitality in the country.

From next week (17 May), hospitality businesses in Wales will be allowed to entertain six adults from six households in one seating.

While the trade association showed gratitude for the Senedd’s recent financial support for the sector, UKH Cymru also called for more to be done.

David Chapman, UKH Cymru’s executive director, said: “We are delighted that Welsh Government has listened to our member’s strong feedback that six adults per table from different households was vital if they were to start climbing back towards profitability upon reopening.

“Any and all support is vital and very welcome, a case we have been repeating in discussions with Welsh Government since the last tranche of finance ran out more than a month ago.”

He added: “The support rightly recognises the industry’s continued plight but it will need further, extended help to enable employers to protect jobs while sub-viable trading continues under necessary but limiting restrictions.”
