A fire broke out at the Ty Belgrave House hotel in Aberystwyth, Wales, at 2.21am this morning.
Attending crews were met with a “well developed fire” and rescued nine adults and three children from the affected property.
A statement by Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At present one person remains unaccounted for. The fire has spread to adjoining properties and the fire service are currently working hard to prevent further fire damage. Residents from adjoining properties have been evacuated to alternative accommodation.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and investigation is due to take place.
The hotel’s owner Emyr Davies told the BBC that the fire alarm system was “full and operational and seems to have worked as designed and alerted the residents to the blaze”.
A follow-up tweet by the fire service said: “Aberystwyth Hotel Fire Update: The risk posed from the fire, to local residents in #Aberystwyth, has passed. Residents wishing to open their doors and windows may do so.”
A fire also recently broke out at the Cottesmore Hotel Golf and Country Club in Pease Pottage, Sussex, on 12 June, as well as a huge fire that tore through the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge only six days earlier.
