Hotel CO 51 hails strong growth in UK and Europe

Hotel Co 51, Marriott’s largest franchise partner for the Moxy brand in Europe, has hailed its recent expansion in the UK and Europe and claims it is now “one of the fastest growing hotel management companies in the area”.

In 2022 Hotel Co 51 opened six new hotels with over 1,100 bedrooms in partnership with the Moxy, Residence Inn, Courtyard and AC Marriott brands. Locations it manages ranges from the very first AC Marriott to open in Scotland in Inverness to the Moxy in Milan.

In 2023, it added the pace of expansion continues with new openings planned and a steady forecast for growth in the highly competitive hospitality sector.

With 40 hotels spanning eight countries and almost 8,800 bedrooms across their portfolio, last year saw the management company open hotels in locations including Bristol, Inverness, plus three hotels in Germany and the first hotel to open in Paris at Disneyland since 2019.

Employing nearly 1,000 staff of 75 different nationalities, 2022 saw an increase of 339 employees across Europe of which were 140 in the UK.

The team were supported by a number of internal promotions and key appointments including five UK Moxy captains and cluster general managers, whilst 30 new roles were also created.

Regional director of UK Operations for the company, Wayne Androliakos, said: “Our portfolio continues to grow, specially the Moxy brand, which was unknown in the UK until Aberdeen opened in 2016. Moxy continues to make a name for itself as playful, design-led, tech-savvy and affordable with increased numbers of guests choosing the brand, validating that the formula works.

“The driver is to continue to push the boundaries of hotel expectations. We are perpetually pinpointing key cities and strategic destinations Europe wide where we can open hotels and build on our success to date.”

Going forward, the operator said the next two years will mark a number of key hotel openings including Moxy Plymouth this summer. It will be the first large brand hotel to open there since 2016 with 200 bedrooms.
