Holehird Mansion and Stables Cottage has been brought to market on behalf of The Holehird Trust for an asking price of £1.75m.
Savills, which is handling the sale, is inviting offers for the property on a 250 year full repairing and insuring lease, subject to an annual peppercorn rent.
Holehird Mansion is a Grade II listed building with extensive accommodation arranged over two floors with communal public areas as well as garages and onsite parking. To the rear of the main house is Stables Cottage, with nine bedrooms, shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities. Both of the properties require full renovation and are suited for alternative uses, subject to planning.
Holehird Mansion is situated north of Windermere with spectacular panoramic views of the lake and surrounding natural landscape. The Mansion is adjacent to Holehird Gardens, the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society, and is located just off the A592, with the nearest mainline train station located at Oxenholme, Kendal.
Councillor Will Clark, chairperson of the Holehird Trust, who are the vendors of the property, said: “The sale of Holehird Mansion and Stables Cottage, presents an opportunity to invest in the future of this historic Lakeland property and bring it back to its former glory whilst supporting and safeguarding the future of the charity.”
Tom Cunningham, director in the hotel capital Market team at Savills Manchester, added: “This is a prime opportunity in the heart of the Lake District, with the opportunity for the purchaser to redevelop and add value to the existing property. Holehird Mansion is in a beautiful location with superb views across Windermere and the fells surrounding the property.”
