Travelodge has appointed Demi Turner as director of Sustainability, a newly created role which aims to help the group strengthen its ESG strategy.
She brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having worked across a range of companies including Whitbread, KFC, ASOS and WPP, with experience spanning over almost two decades in sustainability, innovation and social impact.
Turner’s appointment comes as Travelodge looks to accelerate its commitment to its Better Future Plan. Reporting to Travelodge’s COO, Claire Good, Turner will help to cement the Better Future Plan as the group looks to become net-zero by 2050.
Her responsibilities will include the processes to deliver projects that achieve these plans, such as the continuation of installing smart heating and cooling controls into Travelodge hotels, testing the ability to retrofit Air Source Heat Pump technology into a trial set of hotels and revising the new build and refurbishment specifications to reflect the strategic importance of sustainability.
Turner will work across Travelodge, with additional teams, to develop plans to help ensure Travelodge is future-proofed against the impacts of climate change and other socioeconomic factors.
Additional key priorities across the business include the assessment of further water conservation opportunities, reviewing Travelodge’s waste and circularity targets and the development of its nature and biodiversity strategy.
As well as working towards fulfilling Travelodge’s Environmental commitments, Travelodge said her expertise will also play a part in facilitating the company’s additional responsibilities within its ESG framework, Social and Governance.
Claire Good, Travelodge COO, said: “At Travelodge, sustainability runs through everything we do and we are delighted to welcome Demi as we accelerate our ESG strategy. Demi’s extensive experience across this sector will be invaluable as we seek to create a Better Future for our customers, our colleagues and the environment.”
Turner added: “I am thrilled to be joining Travelodge at such an exciting time in the Company’s commitment to sustainability. There is such an appetite to accelerate the progress of sustainability across the hospitality industry and Travelodge’s initiatives via its Better Future Plan, underpin the Company’s commitment to do this.”
