Frasers Hospitality, a strategic business unit of Frasers Property Limited, has reinforced its stewardship in responsible tourism with the recent award of Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) In-Use (BIU) certifications.

The certifications, aimed at providing a clear and credible route map to improving sustainability for existing buildings, were attained by its owned portfolio in Europe, contributing positively towards the ESG goals set by the group.

The eight properties that obtained the BIU certifications are located in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom (UK) and include Capri by Fraser, Barcelona, Fraser Suites Glasgow, Fraser Suites Edinburgh, Fraser Suites Kensington, London, Fraser Suites Queens Gate, London, Fraser Place Canary Wharf, London, Park International Hotel, London and Fraser Suites Hamburg.

Two remaining owned properties in the European portfolio, Capri by Fraser, Berlin, and Capri by Fraser, Frankfurt, are in the process of obtaining the BIU certifications this year.

Beyond the newly attained green building certifications, the owned UK portfolio has also been accredited by Green Tourism for its approach and practices towards sustainability and is fully powered by renewable energy. Other key ESG initiatives across its properties globally include:

  • Adoption of sustainable eco-friendly linen and paperless in-room guides to reduce environmental footprint;
  • Reduction in plastic waste through the elimination of single-use plastics in rooms and food and beverage outlets;
  • Engagement and partnership of responsible suppliers to build a responsible and resilient supply chain through sustainable procurement;
  • Implementation of food waste management and recycling programme; and
  • Participation in a variety of community engagement initiatives such as charity fundraising, community clean-ups, tree planting programmes and blood donation drives.

Being part of Frasers Property, it said its efforts are aligned with the group’s ESG goals which include achieving net zero carbon by 2050 and having 85% of the group’s owned and asset-managed properties be either green-certified or pursuing green certification by 2030, among others.

Eu Chin Fen, CEO of Frasers Hospitality, said: “Sustainability is core to Frasers Hospitality and is integral to our purpose and mission. The BIU certifications are a testament to our commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations. They are a validation of our capabilities to strengthen the resilience of our portfolio and future-proof our business.

“The certifications also serve as an important milestone as we accelerate our progress towards attaining our green building certification goal by 2030, in line with the Group’s ESG goals. We remain committed to fostering positive impacts on the destinations and local communities where we invest and operate.”
