A hotel in the Channel Islands experienced an earth-tremor that lasted around 20 minutes.
The Club Hotel & Spa and Michelin Star Bohemia Restaurant on the island of Jersey was affected by an earthquake that “felt as though a combine harvester was going right past the building”, shocking guests and staff members.
General manager Tim Phillips told Hotel Owner: “There were around 30 of us in the sitting room on the first floor of the building, and suddenly the floor began shaking really very noticeably – like a heavy vehicle was travelling past.”
Phillips added that while nobody had been hurt, “everyone was looking at each other in a surprised way”, and even a plumber who had been working elsewhere during the quake told Phillips that it had been felt throughout the rest of the island, too.
According to the British Geological Survey, the quake took place at 11.54am, with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale.
