In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The Montenotte, an independent, privately-owned, urban resort situated in the heart of Cork, has appointed Juan Tudela as general manager.

With over two decades of international experience in luxury hospitality, working with some of the world’s most prestigious properties, the property said Tudela brings “exceptional expertise” to this new role.

His career has taken him from the five-star W Hotel in Barcelona to senior roles in Compass Group Spain, before stepping into the role of director of Conference and Banqueting at the five-star Landmark Hotel in London and director of Food and Beverage at the five-star Randolph Hotel in Oxford.

Holding a master’s degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality, with a triple-degree from the EAE Business School at Lleida’s University in Barcelona, Tudela initially joined The Montenotte in August 2024 as director of Operations, where his leadership skills and hospitality expertise quickly proved invaluable.

His promotion to general manager follows the handover from Frits Potgieter and comes at an exciting time for The Montenotte as it continues to develop and grow, following the launch of The Woodland Suite Experience last year.

As general manager, Tudela will be responsible for managing all aspects of the hotel operationally and strategically, delivering guest experiences and motivating and empowering his team. He will oversee all heads of departments including the Bellevue Spa, housekeeping, and food and beverage which includes Panorama, The Panorama Terrace, The Glasshouse rooftop bar and the new exclusive Clubhouse at The Woodland Suite Experience.

The Montenotte features 107 luxury hotel rooms and 26 private self-catering apartments and the exclusive Woodland Suite Experience comprising five Woodland Suites and four River Suites.

Frankie Whelehan, owner of The Montenotte, said: “We are so pleased to announce Juan’s appointment as General Manager. Juan’s proven ability to blend operational excellence with creative vision makes him the perfect leader to guide The Montenotte into its next chapter. Since joining our team, Juan has already demonstrated an exceptional understanding of what makes our urban resort so special, and I’m confident his leadership will further enhance our reputation as one of Ireland’s leading luxury hotels.”

Tudela added: “I am honoured to take on the role of general manager at The Montenotte and to continue my journey in luxury hospitality here in Ireland. I look forward to leading such a diverse and talented team across all departments, as well as making my own contribution to the hotel’s continued exciting development plans.”
