IHG Hotels and Resorts has officially opened Hotel Indigo London Clerkenwell, more than four years after the site was originally expected to launch.

Plans for the hotel were first announced in 2019, when IHG signed a management agreement with Omenport Developments. At that time, it was expected to open in early 2021 with 151 rooms, five meeting rooms and an all-day restaurant.

The 143-room hotel, including nine suites, opened on Friday 6 June at 2 Clerkenwell Road. It is owned by the Davies family and operated by Axiom Hospitality.

Located in a historic neighbourhood known for its links to craftsmanship and design, the hotel’s interiors draw on local heritage. Like other Hotel Indigo properties, the site is intended to offer a “locally rooted” experience alongside a consistent guest standard across the brand.

The hotel occupies a redeveloped site that includes the former Hat and Feathers pub, which has been retained as part of the project.

Hotel Indigo was established by IHG in 2004 as its upscale boutique brand, and now operates more than 100 hotels in over 15 countries.

According to IHG, Clerkenwell was a “natural fit” for the brand, given its strong transport links and growing appeal to both business and leisure travellers.
