The British Motor Museum has welcomed the start of construction on a Fairfield by Marriott hotel development, adjacent to the venue.
The development is the first of its brand in the UK and is expected to reach practical completion in May 2027.
The first phase of the project will deliver 142 bedrooms, with a potential second phase of 98 additional rooms planned if demand increases.
The hotel will be independently operated by management partner Cycas Hospitality.
The British Motor Museum currently hosts conferences and events for up to 600 delegates and features 2,255 square metres of exhibition space.
The addition of on-site accommodation is intended to support the venue’s residential programmes and multi-day events.
As a registered charity, the museum uses income from its commercial activities to fund the conservation of its collection of historic British cars.
The new hotel is expected to increase the site’s appeal to international visitors and business event organisers.
Toby Batchelor, head of commerce at the British Motor Museum, said: “The British Motor Museum is a distinctive and proven venue for business events, as well as a creative and inspiring destination for visitors. Having more bedrooms close by strengthens what we can offer organisers, particularly for multi-day programmes and evening events.
“The hotel is a separate, independently operated business, but we will be working closely with their management and delivery teams to maximise benefits for our delegates and visitors. For planners, the Fairfield will add an extra layer of ease, with accommodation close at hand and a consistent standard guests can trust.”
