Luxury hotel group Edwardian Hotels London is reportedly set to place up to 1,000 jobs at risk due to the impact of the coronavirus

According to The Times, as part of the restructure the group is also looking to agree to new staff contracts with reduced hours and salary cuts.

Reports suggest that the group, which owns the May Fair in London and a number of Radisson Blu hotels, could be asking for as much as a 50% reduction in hours from staff in an attempt to reduce the total number of job lost.

Caroline Marais, human resources director at Edwardian, told The Times: “Covid-19 has severely affected the hospitality industry and our business. Regrettably we have to make difficult decisions, such as the reduction of the corporate work week . . . salaries and permanent job cuts.”

Edwardian Hotels declined to comment further on the reports.

The news comes just a week after it was revealed that around 1,500 jobs have been placed at risk at hotel management firm LGH.

According to the BBC, the management group, which operates 55 hotels from brands such as Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn, has entered a consultation period with its staff due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
