Plans submitted for new Hastings seafront hotel

Proposals have been submitted to Hasting borough council regarding plans to open a new guest hotel at East Cliff House.

The building is a grade II-listed Georgian property above Webbe’s in Rock-a-Nore.

The plans have been submitted by Glen Reddy,  if approved the renovated building would provide nine hotel rooms, a small private bar, and a roof terrace looking out over The Stade.

The building currently remains unused, and its last known occupancy is said to have been a wine bar entitled, Capels

In a letter to planners, Hastings borough council marketing manager Kevin Boorman said: “The main part of the building has been unused for some years, and although the southern frontage retains its impressive Georgian character, the western side, facing All Saints Street, is now looking tired.

“There is an acknowledged shortage of good quality visitor accommodation in Hastings, particularly in the Old Town.”

He added: “This property is in an ideal location for a hotel, and commands impressive views over The Stade. Properly converted, it would be a very useful addition indeed to our visitor accommodation stock.”
