The local town council has given the go-ahead for a 68-bed hotel and Beefeater restaurant to be built on the “derelict” Brunswick Street car park site at the end of this year, with its estimated completion date expected to be the end of 2021.
This will be the first Premier Inn hotel in the Teignmouth area, and the company expects to employ 50 new team members upon its opening.
Cllr Alan Connet Teignbridge District Council Leader said: “We could never have predicted when we began this project in 2016, what we would be living through as it finally comes to fruition.
“However, the impact of coronavirus means it’s more important than ever for us to support our communities and our local economy to thrive, grow and develop in a way that is responsive to changing needs”.
He added: “We’re really pleased about moving forward with this exciting development, and working with Premier Inn and Whitbread Plc to establish Teignmouth as a premier tourist destination, and to provide great facilities for local community groups.”
