Edgar House in Chester has been named the best small hotel in the world in the 2016 TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.
The seven-bedroom hotel came top of the category for hotels in the world with fewer than 30 bedrooms, as The Old Rectory Hotel in Martinhoe, Devon, came seventh in the list.
Mike Stephen, co-owner of Edgar House said, “We are over the moon to be recognised by TripAdvisor as a 2016 Travellers’ Choice Awards winner. To be named the number one small motel in the world is an incredible honour, and we can’t find the words to say how thrilled and humbled we are.”
The 14th-edition of the awards, which are based on TripAdvisor reviews throughout the year, also saw other UK hotels performing well, including Maxwell’s Piece B&B in Moreton-in-Marsh, which was named the world’s second best B&B, and the Elm Tree in Llandudno, voted the second-best bargain hotel in the world.
Meanwhile, Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire came sixth in the top 10 traveller’s choice hotels in the world.
A spokesperson for TripAdvisor said: “These awards are based on guest feedback gathered throughout the year, so what sets the winners apart is not just a high standard of service and accommodation, but the fact that they deliver this day in day out.
“Given there are almost one million hotels and B&Bs listed on TripAdvisor worldwide, the fact that the UK is home to so many winning properties speaks volumes for the quality and competitiveness of the UK hospitality industry.”
Other hotels named in the awards include Sayle House, Cambridge,South Lodge Guest House, Bridlington,Llwyn Helyg Country House, Llanarthney, Queens Promenade Hotel, Blackpool, and the Lawton Court Hotel in Llandudno.
