New chairs appointed for British Tourist Authority and VisitEngland

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley has appointed new chairs of the British Tourist Authority (BTA) and VisitEngland.

Steve Ridgway will take over from Christopher Rodrigues as the new chair of the BTA, which includes VisitEngland and VisitBritain. Ridgway’s previous experience includes more than 23 years with Virgin Atlantic, as well as co-owning the St Moritz Hotel in Cornwall.

Meanwhile, Denis Wormwell, who has served as a VisitEngland board member since 2009, will take over from Penny Cobham as the new chair of the VisitEngland advisory board.

The two incoming chairs will comment their roles on 1 April 2017, for a term of three years.

Bradley said: “Steve Ridgway and Denis Wormwell bring with them a wealth of experience and will be dedicated champions of British and English tourism at a very exciting time for the industry.

“I would like to thank Christopher Rodrigues and Lady Penny Cobham wholeheartedly for the invaluable contribution they have made to the tourism sector over the past decade and beyond.”
