Hundreds of staff could lose their jobs across Marriott after a new proposed structure was proposed for the company in October last year.
It is believed that Marriott could cut as many as 750 jobs, according to The Caterer, with a number of those based in the UK. It follows the plans announced last year to help create a sustainable support structure for its growing portfolio of hotels.
The news comes just four months after it acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts for £9.5bn, creating the world’s largest hotel company with some 5,700 hotels and 1.1m rooms across 110 countries.
A spokesperson did not confirm the number of jobs that could be lost, adding the restructuring of Marriott was not related in anyway to the merger with Starwood last year.
A statement from the firm read: “In October 2016 Marriott International announced a new proposed structure for the UK hotels and above-property functions, to create a sustainable support structure for the growing portfolio of hotels.
“The majority of associates within the UK are not impacted by this proposal. The consultation process with impacted associates is underway.”
