Plato’s bar, restaurant and rooms in Kirkby Lonsdale have been sold to new owners off a guide price of £995,000, who plan to continue to grow the local institution.

The highly regarded Grade II listed property has been sold to Jessica and Tony Randall, alongside Jessica’s mother Kathleen Aziz, who are all moving to the area from the south of England.

Randall said: “We’re thrilled to have purchased Plato’s, we’re looking forward to this becoming our family business.”

Sold on behalf of local company Barry Robinson Leisure Limited, Plato’s is located at the centre of the honeypot town in the Lake District and has recently undergone a full scale refurbishment of the bar, restaurant and the eight bedrooms.

Fiona Benn, director of Barry Robinson Leisure, said: “Plato’s is a great venue for locals and those visiting the area. After our recent refurbishment it has gone from strength to strength and we’re pleased to see that the new owners plan to grow the business – we wish them well with their new venture.”

The popular grade II listed property includes extensive public areas, including bar and restaurant, private dining area, eight letting bedrooms and attractive courtyard seating and retail unit.

Robert Smithson, from Colliers Hotel Agency team, who handled the sale, said: “The popularity of Plato’s and the setting in an impressive tourist location resulted in interest from a variety of potential purchasers. We’re pleased that the new owners are looking to continue the venue’s tenure as a hotel and bar as it is really part of the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale.

“Its impressive range of facilities means it is undoubtedly set to continue attracting trade and go from strength to strength.”
