In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Latimer House Hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria has been sold to Thomas Mao for an undisclosed price.

The hotel has seven ensuite bedrooms and has been recently refurbished. It benefits from a prime location in the centre of the village. It was brought to market by Christie and Co last year with an asking price of £925,000.

It has been remotely operated by the current owners with electronic entry systems allowing easy access for guests.

All rooms have an electronic entry system, tea and coffee making facilities and large screen Smart TV’s. There is additional potential to develop the large cellar area to create manager or housekeepers accommodation.

Christine Kirch, former owner of Latimer House Christine Kirch, said: “We are delighted to have completed the sale of Latimer House and we hand it over to the new owners confident that they will build on the success of the business.

“We would like to thank Graham Wilkinson at Christie and Co for handling the sale for us, who attended to the matter in a prompt, efficient and professional manner. We would also like to thank Jonathan Holmes, from Thomson Hayton Winkley Solicitors, for all his professional help involved in the sale of the business. We are now looking forward to new opportunities.”

Mao added: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire Latimer House, a remarkable establishment built by the previous owners. My goal is to uphold and enhance the high standards of service and quality accommodation that guests have come to expect in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere.

“I am looking forward to welcoming visitors from around the globe as they come to experience the beauty of the Lake District firsthand. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Vince Lung at Bell Park Kerridge Solicitors and Graham Wilkinson at Christie and Co for their invaluable support in facilitating a smooth purchase in time for the 2025 season.”
