The Mercure Newport has marked its third anniversary with a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, its third in as many years, as the hotel reports 70,000 guest stays since opening.
The hotel, based in the Chartist Tower in Newport city centre, said the milestone reflects steady demand from leisure and business travellers in a period when the local hospitality sector continues to face post-pandemic pressures.
Management said the hotel has contributed to local employment, supplier spending and community events while operating within a wider city-centre regeneration scheme. The property, which opened in 2022, is part of a redevelopment of the 1966 tower.
The hotel said its links with community events include The Big Splash, Newport Food Festival and Pride in the Port, alongside a commercial partnership with Dragons Rugby Football Club to provide accommodation for visiting teams and officials.
Earlier this year the hotel worked with local artist Consumer Smith on a series of Newport-inspired artworks influenced by the Transporter Bridge. The original piece raised £500 at auction for Raven House Trust Food Bank, while reproductions now feature on guest welcome cards.
The Mercure Newport has 135 rooms, three meeting spaces and its Bar and Kitchen @ NP20 restaurant, along with an outdoor terrace overlooking the city.
Ceri Trela, general manager of Mercure Newport, said: “We estimate that we’ve contributed over £24m to the local economy through employment, supporting local suppliers, and increasing footfall and visitor spend in the city.
“To receive global recognition for our accomplishments, performance, and service as we celebrate three years since launch is truly incredible.”
